The point can never be emphasised enough, what goes online stays online. If you were unsure of the implications that social media or any online content for that matter could have on your life then this story could well be an eye opener.
With social media it has become an all too familiar feeling when you hit the unfollow button. You feel the guilt of doing it and the person you were following finds out and starts wondering and asking what they have done wrong.
At the start of last year Instagram really began popping, influencers, brands and businesses jumped on board and all the projections indicated that Snapchat was going to be a monster in its own right.
Last year I started experimenting with video content through Snapchat, it is the first time I have created video content and I didn’t do it because it was fun or because I think I am good looking. I did it because I know that we are going to have to get familiar with creating video content whether we want to or not.
Social media gets a bad rep and its not for everyone. My father has no social media account anywhere, no Facebook, Twitter, Instagram…not one and he is perfectly happy. There is however increasing amounts of press which link social media to depression, anxiety, mental health problems and more.
Let me start by saying this, despite all the hype and the soaring numbers of people signing up over the past week – I don’t think Mastodon is the answer, not at the moment anyway and I will get into more details about that later in this blog post.
I’m done with sharing content on LinkedIn, for the past number of months I have been consistently sharing two posts each weekday on LinkedIn but from Monday I am not sharing anything there anymore. In fact I am also deleting the app from my phone and while my profile will remain, it will be untouched…but why?
Social media has advanced so much to the point where we have countless tools to track what is happening on our networks and our profiles. I know people who use countless numbers of tools to keep up with the game, never mind just get ahead of the game.
